Tajine Restaurant

We had a farewell party for an intern at Tanjine Restaurant. They serves Moroccon and Middle Eastern Food. It's located near Prince Court Hospital along the same road as Levain Restaurant.

Other similar restaurant usually serves 1KG rice but Tajine will give you the portion enough for a single person. They have set lunch and dinner and the price is competitive. The price range is RM13.90-RM16.90 inclusive drink.

I had Chicken Mandy which is really nice. The chicken is tender and it's grilled unliked other Chicken Mandy that I had. They usually cook the chiken with the rice but I don't think it applies here. Give it a try!

PENSONIC Electric Oven AE-350N

I've always wanted to try baking but I'm too worried of the end result so I take the easy way by purchasing the finish product instead of making one. ;) I didn't know what type of oven or how it generally works so I google out the info and it seems that we can use electric oven to bake cake. Duh! :)

I'm torn between Elba and Pensonic 35 liter. I think 35 liter oven is just enough for me. I can bake cake and enough for 12 (above) and 12 (bottom) cupcake pan. I went along with Pensonic because it's slightly roomy than Elba.

Few attempts that I tried using the oven.

Baking Cake
Verdict: The cake rises nicely and it takes me 30 minutes to bake.

Baking Cupcake
Verdict: Wonderful cuppies in just 20 minutes

Grill
Verdict:
Without aluminium foil - Lovely and juicy meat. 160 degrees C for 7 minutes (medium well)
With aluminium foil - It looks like steemed, witheout the "charred" effect.

At the end of the day, I love my new besties, I hope she'll be there for me for many years to come! lol! :)

Where to find Buttermilk in KL?

Most recipes that I found over the net is using Buttermilk as one of the main ingredient. I went to Bake with Yen Puchong and they didn't have it at their store. Being new to baking world, I was disapointed.

Luckily, I dropped by at Tesco Puchong and here they are standing just besides cartons of milk waiting for me to pick up! I'm so happy with it!

The next day, I wanted to find a baking pan for the leftovers cupcake batter. We found another shop, Edible Food Sdn Bhd located at Sri Petaling. It's so near to my place. Which to my surprise, they also have Buttermilk in their fridge!

If the places that I mentioned is far from your place, you can make your own Buttermilk subsitute.

Ingredient:
All you need is Milk (just under 1 cup) and 1 Tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice.

Preparation:
1. Pour white vinegar or lemon juice into a measuring cup
2. Add enough milk to make 1 cup line
3. Leave it for 5 minutes. Use as much as your recipe calls for.

Tried this before and it works wonders! :)

Bosphorus Fine Turkish Cuisine Pavilion

Verdict: I'm disappointed with the portion. Usually you'll be getting a huge portion from any other Arab's restaurant. Here, you can expect small serving of rice, looks like chicken rice to me. The rice is not as tasty as other Arab's restaurant, it's simple and not as flavorful. I have to admit, I have little knowledge of Turkish food but for the price that you pay, it's not worth it - at least to me.

My hubby had Hunker Begendi - Sultan's favorite (RM68.80). As for myself, Kuzu Sis Kebab - Lamb Shish Kebab (RM50.80) and Mango Tango Smoothies. I forgot what my hubby gets for his drink. The lamb was nicely seasoned and my hubby loved the taste of his dish. We also had Pide Bread, complimentary by the restaurant. Overall we paid RM161.00. It's for our 3rd anniversary. :) I guess that's the price that you have to pay for fine dining. :)

I have to say good customer service and nice ambiance. I'm just disappointed by the portion which does not go hand in hand with the price. I'd give 3/5.

Skin Foundation SPF 15 vs Illumunating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF 12

I am torn between the two. It doesn't come cheap here in Malaysia. I want something that compliments the skin - something that is natural. I've tried the Illuminating Compact Powder and I loved the effect on my skin. It gives a healthy glows to my face. Easy to apply is a plus for a working mother of two. It stays on pretty long but no more than 5 hours. The MUA gave a light coverage which is commendable that it stays for 5 hours. However, it does look made-up a little bit. I think I have to try it again. :)

As for the skin foundation, I saw a lot of reviews via youtube and they've nothing to say except they absolutely loved it! I saw (youtube) how easy it was to apply and how it gives a soft finish to the face. They keep on repeating that it's water-based that makes it even better. Hurmm.. it makes me want to have it even more.. One of the review said that by adding the losse powder, it gives the glow effect to the skin. Which will add more investment to it.

I'm going to get a second look on the products today and I'll buy it tomorrow. I've got a big day tomorrow. I want to look absolutely good. It's my 3rd anniversary! Yay! :)

Skin Foundation SPF 15

Illumunating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF 12

Update: Finally, I bought Skin Foundation SPF 15 + Sheer Finish Pressed Powder. The Skin Foundation is light to medium coverage. For everyday use, I apply by hands to get the light coverage. It's easy! As for more coverage, you can use the brush which covers the skin evenly. It feels light on the skin, doesn't feel like you apply foundation on your face. Adding the powder gives your face a healthy glow. I am very satisfied with the product and using it daily.

DuoDerm heals wound best!

After I delivered my son, I had episiotomy (normal delivery) and suffered pain whereby the stitches were broken. I couldn't sit, lay down, stand for too long or not even gave my son a bath. I thought it was normal after delivery. He's my first born afterall.

My hubby rushed me to nearby Hospital Pantai Ipoh. It was Sunday noon and they had to call up a doctor for me. The doctor (Dr Anjalai Pathmalingam) was nice and attentive. She prescribed me with DuoDerm hydroactive gel which works wonders for me. It acts as a filler and I was better in no time! I was in full recovery after 2 weeks of using it. If I were to deliver in Ipoh, I would definitely have her as my gynae.

This wonderful tube can be found in nearby pharmacy for RM19.00.
It's handy to have it around the house!

*My MIL is diebetic and uses it to heal a wound at her ankle. :)

Revlon Sandalwood Beige Lipstick

I've searched high and low for the Revlon Sandalwood Beige lipstick. I've always wanted to try on nude lips but to find for a perfect color for me is hard as I have a dark skin tone. Seeing the ads is refreshing, knowing that I could go for the look. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it anywhere; Mid Valley, KLCC etc.

If you're looking for the color, you can find it at Guardian IOI Mall and Guardian Endah Parade. They have a few left on the shelves. :) According to Revlon sales person, the color has been discontinued last year but now they're going to resume the production. It's going to take time to get here though.

It glides on your lips evenly and it moisturized your lips. I love it to bits! The color is however a little bit orange-y to me. I have to powdered my lips, apply the lipstick and dab with tissue to get the perfect color for me.

The price is RM33 (regular) but Guardian is having sale right now and you can get it for RM19.98! It's a steal!

The Best Red Velvet in KL (Part 3)

Actually I blogged about Nadia's Red Velvet Cake while writting for The Daily Grind. I believe that she deserves to get a whole page to herself. She made me so happy with the cupcakes. I was struggling to finish up the cupcakes, not because it was bad but it was heavenly good. I don't know when will get to taste that again. I know she's pretty busy with work and tries really hard to juggle with orders etc. I can't forget the first time I ordered from her. I loved it so much! It was really good. Without any reason, I ordered the second time from her. It wasn't as good as the first time but it was still yummy. Maybe the bar is too high even for her. lol!

I can't wait to try for the 3rd time. I've ordered a cake from her for my 3rd anniversary! I hope my hubby loves it! Here are the photos for your drooling pleasure... Yum!

Cute huh?

Nonchalant yet heavenly tasted cake

Has anyone seen a Rainbow Velvet Cake before?? :)

The Best Red Velvet in KL (Part 2)

Blogged about my experience with The Daily Grind Red Velvet Cake earlier. I suddenly have this insatiable craving over the Red Devil. Right after my training, I went to Empire Shopping Mall Subang to try another joint selling the Red Velvet Cake. This is due to astounding reviews for the cakes. I've got to try it out!

It was my first time at Empire Shopping Mall so I was a little out of my element. While strolling along the lower ground, we finally found a cafe called Whisk Espresso Bar & Bake Shop. It's small and cosy place, nearby Jaya Grocer.

We had Red Velvet Cake, Carrot Cake, Hazelnut Latte and Coffee Latte. It cost us RM45. The cake priced at RM11.90 each. Hurmm.. to think bout it, I could have a whole cake for that kind of price. Haha!

OK, here goes my review.. The cake came first before the coffee. I had my first bite and it was crazy sweet! It was like a rush to the brain and I actually get a really bad headache after eating it. No joke! I don't know how would people consider that Whisk has the best Red Velvet and Carrot Cake. Seriously, I won't go there again for their cakes. I'd love to taste the macaroon though... This is just my personal views.. *ducks* As for the coffee, I think the barista did a good job in making us a good cup of coffee. We didn't add any sugar to it, thanks to the kind reminder written at the cafe - Try the coffee first before adding the sugar. Safe to say, by consuming the cake while taking the hot coffee latte (non-sugar) is actually bearable. We didn't finish the cakes though.

Verdict: Definately NOT the best red velvet cake *in my book*.. Still looking for the best.. At this point, The Daily Grind come in close second after Nadia's cupcake..

Next: I want to try the Red Devil from A Taste Boutique. I went to the shop yesterday and it's closed. Really can't wait to try it out!

*If you have found your dream Red Velvet Cake, do leave a message. I'd love to try it out.

Found a beautiful picture of the Red Velvet Cake. It was too dark. :P

The Best Red Velvet Cake in KL

Current verdict:
1. Nadia's cupcake - Moist and Lovely frosting!
2. The Daily Grind - They use butter and not cheese for the frosting - urgh! gorgeous cake though
3. Nadia's cake - Love frosting!

Dislike:
1. Whisk - Too sweet and definitely overrated!

*This is my personal review. I don't get paid giving the review. It's for my love for the food! :)

I'm in the midst of hunting for the best Red Velvet Cake in KL for quite some time now. I love my "jalan-jalan cari makan" moment with my hubby. It's wonderful to share delicious food experience with someone special! My mom came back from Ireland - stayed at my brother's house for 2 weeks. I've been craving for Red Velvet for quite awhile so I took the "oppportunity" to buy 1 whole cake of the red devil! As I read reviews over the net, many of them suggested to get the Red devil from The Daily Grind. Without thinking, I picked up the phone and ordered it! It cost me RM99.76 (plus tax)! Pretty darn expensive for a cake huh?! Argh! Never mind that. Regret later... Everyone was shocked by looking at the size of it. We didn't have party or anything. Just family affairs. It was HUGE! Not too bad for a RM99.76 cake! ;) I've tasted my first Red Velvet Cake baked my a dear friend of mine and I could still remember vividly of the cream cheese. It was sooo good! We ordered cupcakes from her and I enjoyed it to bits! I was hoping of getting the same effect from the cake. No. I hope for the better. Hehe! Well, now comes the review. The cake was good BUT it's not cream cheese. It's butter cream. The cake is still yummy but to me the icing is just not to that level. Maybe cuz I've had better? *duck* However,my sister loved it! So it depends to your own taste palate. Have it a try.. I think it cost about RM12 per slice.

The cake is huge!
